Marines Just Detained a Civilian. What Are We Going to Do About It?

Dear friends,
How do we stop this?

Marines just detained a civilian on US soil. That crosses a line that should never have been touched. It violates the Posse Comitatus Act, erases due process, and turns our military into domestic enforcers. And they only admitted it happened when Reuters showed them the photos.

This isn’t politics anymore. It’s authoritarianism.
And the question is no longer “what are they allowed to do?”
It’s: What will we tolerate?

We can’t afford to wait and see. We have to respond before this becomes the new normal.

The biggest movements in history didn’t begin with power. They began with regular people refusing to accept injustice as inevitable. Change has always come from everyday people who stood up, locked arms, and refused to back down. We don’t need permission to protect each other, we just need the will to do it.

Let’s start thinking in terms of many, not massive. A 1000 person protest makes headlines, but 100 protests of ten people can overwhelm a system built to control crowds, not communities. Decentralized, creative resistance is harder to suppress. It shows up everywhere at once, and it spreads faster than fear. READ Blueprint for Revolution by Srdja Popovic.

Let’s protect each other. Mutual aid isn’t just about food or funds. It’s rides, childcare, safe housing, mental health support, body cameras, buddy systems, and someone waiting outside just in case. None of us can do everything, but together, we can make sure no one stands alone.

And we have to remind each other that fear is not the final word. That’s the goal of this kind of violence, to break us down before the beatings even begin. But the way we win is by showing up anyway. Loud. Clear. Unapologetic. Together.

We can also take the fight straight to those in power. Call your local reps. Your mayor. Your senator. Ask them directly: Do you support the military detaining civilians on U.S. soil? Yes or no? Demand a public answer. Push for emergency legislation. Coordinate mass emails and calls. Show up at town halls. If they won’t speak up now, they never will.

We need legal observers. Civil rights attorneys. Journalists. We need to push for injunctions, lawsuits, and investigations. We cannot skip this step. One lawsuit can set a national precedent. One court order can block the next deployment. The legal system alone won’t save us, but it’s one of many pressure points we can use if we act fast.

And we need to document everything. Film. Timestamp. Back up footage. Send it to trusted outlets and watchdog groups. Don’t assume someone else has it. Don’t wait for the news to catch up. They tried to hide this detention until they got caught on camera. That should tell us everything.

So how do we stop this?
We name it. Loudly. Publicly. Over and over again.
We refuse to let it become normal.

We reject the narrative that this is safety or order or anything but what it truly is: The rise of fascism.

And we remind each other, again and again, that fear is not the final word.
We are still here.
We are still many.
And we are not powerless.

With love and fire,
G.
